Aperam joins ResponsibleSteel™

ResponsibleSteel is delighted to announce another steel producer, Aperam SA, is becoming a member.

Aperam SA is a global player in stainless steel, with 2.5 million tonnes of flat stainless steel capacity in Europe and Brazil, and a leader in high value specialty products. It has a highly integrated distribution, processing and services network, and the unique capability to produce stainless and specialty steel from low cost biomass (charcoal made from its own FSCⓇ-certified eucalyptus plantations).

Aperam’s products are sold in over 40 countries, including customers in the aerospace, automotive, catering, construction, household appliances, electrical engineering, industrial processes, medical, and oil and gas sectors.

Tim di Maulo, Aperam CEO, said: “Aperam’s commitment to sustainability is ingrained in our values and fully aligned with our mission to produce endlessly recyclable products in a responsible manner. In an energy intensive industry like ours, environmental stewardship is not only key to sustainable profitability, it is also part of our responsibilities. In Aperam, we are determined to be a sector leader in environmental excellence, recording one of the best carbon footprints of our industry, and also striving to adopt the best practices in terms of ethics, governance, community engagement, and corporate citizenship.

“In that context, the all-encompassing approach of ResponsibleSteel is a powerful lever at sector level. It will not only define the right standards applicable to our industry, helping all players to move forward and assisting customers in making their choice, but it also determines solid and fair requirements for our supply chain partners. We are eager to participate in ResponsibleSteel to promote steel as a material of choice for the world’s sustainable development.”

Matthew Wenban-Smith, Executive Director, ResponsibleSteel, said: “It is encouraging to see more steel producers joining ResponsibleSteel’s collaborative platform, and we welcome Aperam as a new member. We currently have some important projects underway, including ReponsibleSteel’s standard and assurance programme, and we welcome Aperam’s contribution to their development.”
