ResponsibleSteel™ and International Zinc Association show commitment to responsible steel supply chain

ResponsibleSteel and International Zinc Association (IZA) are showing their commitment to a responsible steel supply chain by formalising their support as respective Associate Members.

Zinc is a critically important raw material for the steel sector because zinc extends the life of steel products, saving energy and resources. Well over 50% of the global zinc production is used to galvanize steel.

ResponsibleSteel will become an Associate Member of IZA, creating new opportunities for collaboration to address key sustainability issues in both the zinc and steel industries.

Likewise, IZA is joining ResponsibleSteel as an Associate Member, showing support for the steel industry and demonstrating its commitment to the principles of sustainable development. IZA has already participated in two ResponsibleSteel stakeholder meetings in 2018, and is currently reviewing the final ResponsibleSteel draft standard in cooperation with its Stewardship working group.

Matthew Wenban-Smith, Executive Director, ResponsibleSteel said:

“Working towards a responsible steel industry includes welcoming and learning from every stage of the steel supply chain. We are delighted to join IZA as an Associate Member, and in turn, welcome IZA as an Associate Member of ResponsibleSteel. With the steel sector consuming such a large proportion of the annual zinc production, this partnership is very relevant for supporting our respective sustainability missions.”
