The subject ‘The next frontier for steel: risks and opportunities for the responsible, low carbon transition of the steel value chain’ will be discussed by a panel comprising of:
AngloAmerican – Ben Davies, Head of Product Stewardship
ArcelorMittal – Alan Knight, Head of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainable Development
ResponsibleSteel – Matthew Wenban-Smith, Executive Director, ResponsibleSteel
The Climate Group – Mike Peirce, Corporate Partnerships Director
HSBC – Farnam Bidgoli, Head of Sustainable Bonds DCM EMEA, HSBC
The event will also introduce a new HSBC Report on steel’s carbon footprint and low carbon transition opportunities and challenges.
Demand for responsibly sourced and produced steel is growing, as sectors across the economy transition to a low carbon economy. The two sectors most actively seeking responsible produced low carbon steel are automotive and construction. Other interested stakeholders include industry investors and financiers. To date, there has not been an agreed standard to enable engagement across various stakeholders. Representatives from these sectors will be invited to the event to learn how the ResponsibleSteel Standard meets this need.
