VAMA joins  ResponsibleSteel™

ResponsibleSteel welcomes its first member in China, Valin ArcelorMittal Automotive Steel Co. Ltd (VAMA).

VAMA was jointly established by Valin Steel and ArcelorMittal and began production in June 2014. VAMA focuses on the automotive market of China, and strives to supply safer and more environmentally friendly, high-end, automotive steel for production in the local market. The designed capacity of VAMA Phase 1 is 1.5million tonnes, and production reached around 700kt in 2018.

VAMA joins ResponsibleSteel as part of its corporate responsibility strategy to be a responsible and ethical business enterprise, contributing to the social and economic development of the community and environment where it operates.

VAMA is committed to ensuring that its industrial processes and products have the lowest possible impact on the environment, through cutting-edge research into new technologies and working with the wider steel industry to promote best practices.

Fernando Teixeira, CEO, VAMA, said: “VAMA is devoted to working hand-in-hand with Chinese automakers to take China’s automotive manufacturing to a new level.
