Technical Advisory Panel
The Technical Advisory Panel is made up of experts who provide independent technical input to specific areas agreed upon by the ResponsibleSteel Secretariat. These areas include:
- Standards related issues, interpretation questions and new developments
- Assurance related issues
- Monitoring and evaluation related issues
- Claims related issues


Amanda Rejström

Amanda currently works in WWF as the Lead of Steel Decarbonisation Workstream, and she is based in Finland.


Brenda Chan

Brenda is a chemical engineer by training, and an environmental engineer with over 20+ years working on sustainability and environmental management across industrial sectors, specializing in mining & metal production, water resources management, waste recovery & utilization and land reclamation. Her work has spanned from positions in academia, private sector, ESG analytics and standard setter in Europe and China. She has been a consultant for the IFC since Aug 2024, on an advisory role to steel sector in South East Asia.
Prior to IFC, she served as the Technical Manager, where she led the SBTi steel sector project, collaborated with an external consultant to develop methodology and guidance, target-setting tool, and supplementary documents. She possesses technical expertise, collaborating on robust methodologies applicable to primary and secondary steel producers.
Brenda holds a BSc in Chemical Engineering, PhD in Chemistry (iron & steel production) at Newcastle University, UK and a master degree in Environmental Policy and Regulations at the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK.


Paulo Carvalho

Paulo Carvalho is Managing Director of decarbValue Limited, an independent consultancy advising on value creation from the decarbonisation of the iron & steel value chain. Mr. Carvalho is a green steel and iron ore market expert, with over 14 years’ experience in the mining & metals industry, helping organisations across the sector navigate commercial and sustainability opportunities emerging from the energy transition.
Mr. Carvalho is a regular speaker at steel industry events and, amongst his advisory work, has supported the financing of several green steel & HBI plants in Europe and the Middle East, designed market entry strategies, conducted deep-dive market studies, and acted as expert witness in various international commercial arbitrations.
He is also currently a Visiting Research Fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies. Prior to founding decarbValue, he was a partner at ERM in London, Head of Steel Consulting at CRU Consulting, Senior Economist at Vale S.A., and professor of Economics at PUC-Rio University.


Julija Menise

Julija is a corporate social responsibility professional with experience in the review and analysis of international standards and national laws and policy instruments related to human rights, labour rights, conflict minerals, environment, supply chain traceability among others. In her current role as Senior Vice President at TDi Sustainability, Julija works on advisory projects for clients related to the development of responsible sourcing programmes, training, supplier monitoring, and capacity building, as well as developing and implementing voluntary sustainability standards and assurance programmes in the minerals and metals industry. Julija has extensive experience conducting supply chain mapping, social compliance and due diligence assessments in industries ranging from mining, smelting, manufacturing and retail to wood products, electronics and food and beverage in over 40 countries in Europe, USA, Latin America, China, and Central Asia. Julija is an approved assessor for RMI, Copper Mark, Bettercoal, LME, and MAC TSM among others. Julija holds a bachelors degree in Public Law, a masters in Jurisprudence from the Police Academy of Latvia, and an LLM in Human Rights Law and Intellectual Property Rights from Lund University, Sweden.


Andrew Marjoribanks

Andrew is a metallurgy graduate from the University of Glasgow, and was BHP Steel’s (now BlueScope) representative on the IISI (now World Steel Association) Marketing Committee for 10 years, chairing it for four.
On retirement from BlueScope, he was appointed as Chair of the Sustainability Committee of the Australian Steel Institute (ASI), which led to his Board appointments on the Australian Life Cycle Assessment Society and, until recently, EPD Australasia Ltd.
In 2008, he represented the ASI at the formation of the Steel Stewardship Forum, which in 2010 launched what would become ResponsibleSteel. Andrew was part of the working group to develop the Steel Stewardship Council (now ResponsibleSteel) and has been an Independent Director since its incorporation in 2016.


Marnie Bammert

Marnie is an independent consultant with 20 years of experience in developing, implementing and communicating sustainability certification and verification programmes. Marnie started her journey in the field of sustainability with oekom Research AG, a rating agency specialised in sustainable and ethical investments. She then moved to the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), holding various positions including Deputy Director Europe.
Since then, Marnie has worked as a consultant on projects ranging from protected areas to infrastructure, mining and nature-based solutions. Marnie has worked with ResponsibleSteel since early 2018. She holds a masters degree in Sustainable Urban and Regional Development from the University of Trier in Germany.
