Issues Resolution System
Our Issues Resolution System explains how we deal with issues and describes different pathways for resolving them.
Heading

The ResponsibleSteel Issues Resolution System sets out the formal process for raising, assessing and resolving issues related to the ResponsibleSteel programme, including certification, standards, policies and governance. The system applies to all ResponsibleSteel stakeholders, including consultants, auditors, certification bodies, board members, Technical Advisory Panel members, Assurance Panel members, ResponsibleSteel members, local communities, certified sites, and the ResponsibleSteel Secretariat.
The document describes a clear three‑step process: initial engagement with the ResponsibleSteel Secretariat, resolution through an appropriate pathway based on the type of issue, and escalation to an independent ad‑hoc Resolution Committee where necessary. It emphasises fairness, transparency, confidentiality, protection from retaliation and the safeguarding of stakeholders’ rights.
The system also explains how different types of issues—such as concerns about certified sites, certification bodies, ResponsibleSteel policies or interpretations of the Standard—are handled, and how outcomes are recorded and reported.
Together, these procedures strengthen accountability across the ResponsibleSteel system and support consistent, credible implementation of ResponsibleSteel's programmes.
