The ResponsibleSteel Membership Survey 2024 provided a comprehensive snapshot of member sentiment, priorities, and challenges, establishing a baseline for ongoing engagement. Conducted in November–December 2024, the survey gathered responses from a broad cross‑section of ResponsibleSteel members across business, associate and civil society categories.
Overall, members reported high levels of satisfaction, with nearly four in five respondents indicating they were satisfied or very satisfied with their membership. Members valued ResponsibleSteel most for its mission‑driven leadership, its membership network, and opportunities for learning, knowledge sharing and training. Certification was widely recognised as a key tool for ESG risk management, alignment with organisational values, and the strengthening customer interest.
The survey also highlighted significant system‑wide challenges facing the steel sector, particularly the limited availability of low‑ and near‑zero emissions steel. Members also pointed to difficulties in securing internal buy‑in for ESG initiatives, accessing finance, and navigating an increasingly complex standards landscape.
In response to these findings, ResponsibleSteel identified clear actions for 2025 and beyond, including an expanded events programme, enhanced member account management, the development of practical guides for members around ResponsibleSteel, and targeted campaigns to strengthen market demand for Certified Steel. Together, these actions reinforced ResponsibleSteel’s commitment to delivering value for members while accelerating the transition to a more responsible steel industry.
